Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Do you guys vandalize the places you go to?

  • A:  We don't vandalize. Period. A bunch of people look down on the urban exploration community as a bunch of vandals and graffiti artists that ruin old and abandoned places, and we don't want to set this example. We can appreciate a good piece of artwork when we see one, but this doesn't mean we encourage this type of behavior. We enter these places for the sole purpose of documentation and historical preservation, and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less. We hope this website will be able to shine a little bit of light on the good side of the urban exploration community.

  • Q: Who are you guys? Identities?

  • A: We prefer to stay anonymous. We prefer this because we want the focus to stay on these amazing and forgotten places, and not our personal identities. All you need to know is that we are two guys that go out and explore the forgotten and abandoned places of Michigan. There's more information about us, and what The Forgotten Existence's goals are on the About page.

  • Q: Do you recommend going to these places that you document?

  • A: We don't recommend it, and we highly discourage it. This is one of the most important questions that can be asked in an environment like this, and we think our answer is just as important. Nearly all of the places we document have several risks associated with them: They're usually filled with dangerous chemicals like asbestos, there is a risk of police involvement due to trespassing, sometimes they are located in dangerous neighborhoods, etc. One of the purposes of this website is to provide documentation in the form of pictures and history, which will hopefully serve as an outlet for curiosity so that these potential risks are avoided.

  • Q: Are you guys professionals? Aren't these places super dangerous?

  • A: We wouldn't consider ourselves professionals per se, but we do have extensive experience. These places that we visit are incredibly dangerous due to the risk of exposure to toxic chemicals like asbestos, the risk of falling/collapsing buildings, etc. We have more than 6 years of urban exploration experience under our belts, and we always wear the proper PPE (respirators around asbestos, hard hats when stuff is falling from ceilings, etc.) So, are we professionals? No. Do we do what we do safely? Yes.

  • Q: How do I contact you guys?

  • A: The Contact page has a contact form that sends your message directly to our email. You can use that contact form to send any questions/comments/concerns that you may have.
